Terry suggested that Graham, having once made the big decision - and it must have been greater than the decisions most people are called on to make - to profess himself a homosexual, is no longer concerned with making important decisions. He is now concerned with his homosexual relationships and in perpetuating the atmosphere of well-being which good food and drink bring, and in which the relationships thrive. He doesn't want to think too much about himself now, and above all he does not want to have to struggle.

But Sunday night was the most eventful, when I giggled a great deal over the menu after some very high-quality grass of Eric's, and Graham ended up being seduced by an Aberdeen gentleman on a fishing holiday. Graham resisted evidently, but was well pissed and woke me about 1.00 banging on my door saying he was Ethel de Keyser.

Очень веселилась над историей про его званый обед - it is strange that someone who takes so much pride and care in producing such excellent food has absolutely no idea how to serve it. The delicious meal of lamb, stuffed with salmon, was served with all the style and elegance of an army kitchen.

Eric goes through his reasons for dissatisfaction. (I learn later from Terry G that Eric is reading Sartre at the moment - he was reading McLuhan a month ago when he was arguing that the content of Python books is quite unimportant compared to the form - and during the filming in Scotland he was reading Machiavelli. TG thinks if we can get at Eric's library cards, we can get at the man!)

Не ожидала, что для Эрика был таким тяжелым сезон без Джона - but he clearly misses John a great deal. None of us are as good as John or ever will be, he says.

But he's clearly an idealist who has warm feelings towards us and it's very flattering to hear one of one's four great heroes of the '60s say he'd 'just like to meet and drink a glass of beer with you, and tell you how much I love you.'
